Mrs. Monica Eileen Jones, 58, of Warren, Ohio, transitioned from this earthly labor to her heavenly reward on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Monica, affectionately known as “Moni,” was born on February 21, 1967, the beloved daughter of Bishop Walter Junior Hale Sr. and Doris E. Underwood Hale. She was a proud 1985 graduate of East High School. Monica was employed with Arthur Treacher’s as a manager, Alorica as a telecommunications specialist for seven years, and most recently with CVS Corporation.
A devoted member of Word in Action Ministry and a former member of Idlewood Church of God, Monica was a true woman of faith who loved the Lord with her whole heart. She had a beautiful voice and loved to sing, having previously sung professionally in Japan.
Monica was also an integral part of the Women of Worth Academy, where she blessed countless women with her powerful testimony of faith, strength, and courage. Her life story inspired others to trust God through adversity and to walk boldly in purpose. She had a special love for children and was a very generous soul who would do anything for the people she loved. Monica was a founding member of the Gospel Cousins singing group. She first became a member of the NAACP while living in Virginia and later continued her involvement with the organization while living abroad in Japan. Monica was also an avid contributor to the Warren Family Mission.
She enjoyed bowling, singing, playing social card games, and watching The Ten Commandments, The Color Purple, Lethal Weapon, Jesus of Nazareth, The Wizard of Oz, Harry Potter, and Twister. She also loved watching Good Times, The Golden Girls, and Sanford and Son. Monica enjoyed eating and cooking “soul food” dishes, with her requested specialties being her macaroni and cheese and German chocolate cake.
She leaves to forever cherish her memory and celebrate her life and legacy: her father, Bishop Walter Junior Hale Sr.; her beloved husband of 32 years, Ellwood O. Jones III, whom she married on December 18, 1993; three wonderful children, Anthony Brandon Hale, Brianna Janae Jones, and Ellwood “EJ” (Kya) Jones IV; her siblings, Walter J. Hale II, LaTecia Ann Cummings, and Valerie (Pastor Guy) Burney; her granddaughter, Layla Nyomi Jones; her father-in-law (love), Deacon Ellwood O. Jones Jr.; her brother-in-law (love), Terrence W. Jones (Dr. Chalanda); her goddaughter, Brisha Merchant; her god sisters, Marva Wilson, Marvina Reed, Michelle “Peaches” Hines, and the Wilson Family; her god brothers, Anthony Mitchell and Ronald (Desiree) Hickman; her best friend, Charise Crooms-Wright; three nieces, five nephews, one great-nephew; and a host of loving family members, church family, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Doris E. Underwood Hale; her mother-in-law (love), Jacqueline L. Jones; her paternal grandparents, Gussie Dean Hale and Wiley B. Hale; her maternal grandparents, Essie Mae Underwood and Bishop McKinley Underwood Sr.; as well as Maude Fullmore, Edna Mae Jones, and Alberta Lawson.
