Ms. Ella York, 69, of Youngtown, transitioned from labor to reward on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Park Vista Nursing Home.
Ms. York was born June 27, 1954 in Fairmont, West Virginia, a daughter of James Jr. and Jeanette Carter York. She was a 1973 graduate of South High School. She had been employed at Northside Hospital as a Ward Clerk for 20 years. She began her Career in Nursing in 1997 after graduating from Choffin Career Center for Practical Nursing working at Guardian Healthcare Center and the Youngstown City Schools. She attended New Bethel Baptist Church. Starting a new career in 2010 as a Certified Suicide Crisis Specialist, working at Help Network of Northeast Ohio until her retirement in October of 2021. Ella was also an active member of the NAACP Youngstown branch and embraced her culture. Ella enjoyed plants and collecting African Artifacts. Ella loved and cared for so many, but her passion was for her family whom she loved deeply.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Kimu York of Columbus; her son, Kylon Bills of Youngstown; siblings, Alice Rucker of Cleveland, Anneedra Jones, Johanna (James) Johns and Etta Huff all of Youngstown; four grandchildren, Kyla Whitlow Khris Logan, Kellan Franklin and Kylon Bills Jr.; a great grandson, Kario Whitlow; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relative and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her companion, Craig Bills Sr. Visitation will be held Friday, March 1, 2024 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the L. E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 11:00 a.m.
